IN RE [sic] PROCEEDINGS OF THE HOUSE SELECT COMMITTEE ON ASSASSINATIONS AFFIDAVIT OF MARION M. JOHNSON DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA) ) ss.: CITY OF WASHINGTON ) I, MARION M. JOHNSON, Archivist, Office of the National Archivist, National Archives and Records Service, United States General Services Administration, Eighth and Pennsylvania Avenue, Northwest, Washington, D.C., do hereby solemnly swear: 1. In mid-May 1965 I was assigned the responsibility for the records of the Warren Commission. These records were stored in the sixth stack level, West [sic] side, third vault. This was a security stack area, and I was given a desk in it. 2. A number of other groups of sensitive materials were stored in the same stack area that contained the Warren Commission materials. In particular, the Office of Presidential Libraries stored both John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy materials in this area. 3. Because I was working in the area, I occasionally overheard discussion by Presidential library [sic] staff members about the Presidential and other materials in their custody that were stored in the area. On one ocasion [sic] I heard Herman Kahn, at that time the Assistant Archivist for Presidential Libraries, tell Robert Bahmer, at that time the Page 1 of 2 pages. Affiant's initials: MMJ [end of page one] 2 Archivist of the United States, that he had been called by someone connected with the Kennedy family who said they wanted to transfer some materials here. From the context of the conversation, I concluded that they were referring to the autopsy materials. I cannot remember the date of this conversation. 4. I was not present when the footlocker containing the autopsy photographs and X-rays was brought into the security area. I remember that the footlocker was on a shelf near my desk for some time prior to October 31, 1966, when the autopsy photographs and X-rays were donated to the United States, but I cannot recall when I first noticed its presence. I was not aware of its contents before the transfer of those materials. I have read the statement above, which I have made freely and voluntarily, and it is true and complete to the best of my knowledge and belief. I understand that this affidavit may be introduced and received into evidence by the House Select Committee on Assassinations. /s/ Marion M. Johnson ---------------------- MARION M.
