MEMORANDUM To: Files From: Mark Flanagan Date: September 20, 1977 Subject: Telephone Conversation with Jerrol F. Custer, Saltsberg, Pennsylvania, (412) 793-4031. Mr. Jerrol F. Custer is included on a list of persons present during the autopsy of President John F. Kennedy. I spoke with him on the evening of Septmeber 7, 1977 in reference to his role during this event. Mr. Custer stated that in November of 1963, he served as a hospital corpsman in X-ray Technology at the Bethesda Naval Hospital. He confirmed that he witnessed the autopsy of JFK and was specifically involved in searching for fragments through the process of taking X-rays. Mr. Custer stated that numerous "total" body X-rays were taken, that numerous high-ranking people were present, and that these high-ranking officials took notes. Mr. Custer will not discuss any additional details, however, until the agreement he signed pledging silence is rescinded. Mr. Custer currently works at Monitor Hospital in the Saltsberg area. I informed Mr. Custer that the Committee would most probably contact him at a later date. Summary of Contact: Custer was present at the autopsy of President Kennedy - I called him to ask him some questions in that regard. Custer said he was an X-ray technologist, rank HM3, and happened to be on duty in the X-ray department on the evening of Nov. 22, 1963. He was called into the autopsy room while the autopsy was in progress to assist in taking X-rays. He recalled that he used a portable machine. Custer said that he could not remember any additional details. I asked him about the persons present, the orders that were given, the types of X-rays, the photographs, the wounds, etc., Custer could not recall anything. III.
